For some reason, the lights went out one night, right as I was finishing my lesson at 7pm. We were supposed to have Spanish lessons right afterward so we collected our flashlights and went on with it! We found out the next morning that someone was trying to suprise a person on their birthday by flying a hot air balloon near their house. The balloon ended up hitting a power line and turning power off to most of Miraflores. What a wonderful gift! Especially as blackouts have a tendency to remind Limeños of the days of the Shining Path when they'd black out the city and run around committing random acts of violence in the richer neighborhoods. But it was fun for us foreigners =)
